今日は、日常でもよく使われるフレーズについてです。
皆さん、聞いたことあるでしょうか？
The Usual Suspects
The 1942 movie Casablanca is one of the most famous movies of all time. The wartime romantic drama has enthralled generations of cinema lovers with its memorable dialogue, usually from the star Humphrey Bogart, that have become part of the English language.
But it is support actor Claude Rains who delivers a line that includes the most commonly used expression today :
“Round up the usual suspects.”
In this scene Police Captain Louis Renault (Rains) is protecting his friend Rick Blaine (Bogart) by ordering his officers to arrest other people for the shooting committed by Rick. In this context the expression “the usual suspects” is suggesting that all crimes in the city of Casablanca are committed by the same people and that by arresting them all they would find the killer among them.
In everyday English the expression is defined by the Cambridge Dictionary as :
The people or things you would expect to be present somewhere or doing a particular thing.
Some examples in an everyday context :
Example A
Tom : “Who was at the party last night ?”
John : “The usual suspects”
Example B
His heart attack was caused by the usual suspects : poor diet, stress and smoking.

The Usual Suspects
１９４２年に公開された「カサブランカ」は、映画史上もっとも有名な映画の一つです。戦争中に繰り広げられる恋愛ドラマは、後に日常英会話でも使われるようになった印象的な台詞（その多くは大スター、ハンフリー・ボガートのセリフ）とともに、世代を超えて映画ファンたちをトリコにしてきました。
しかし、実は今でもよく使われる表現を台詞で使ったのは、脇役を務めるクロード・レインズだったのです：
「Round up the usual suspects.いつも名が上がる奴らを捕まえておけ。」
このシーンで、ルイ・ルノー署長（レインズ）は、銃を発砲し、人を殺した友人リック・ブレイン（ボガード）を守るため、部下に他の人を逮捕することを命じます。
このセリフに出てくる、”the usual suspects（usual＝いつもの、suspects＝容疑者達）と言うフレーズを使って、カサブランカの街で起こる全ての犯罪の犯人はいつも同じで、彼ら全てを捕まえることでその中から殺人犯を見つけ出すことができると言ったことを、部下にそれとなく言っているのです。
日常英語として、この表現はケンブリッジディクショナリーにはこう定義が載っています。
あそこに居るだろう、こういう事をしているだろうと予想がつく人物や、ここにきっとあるだろうと予想がつく物
日常会話の中での使い方の例としては：
例A:
トム：「昨日のパーティーには誰が居た？」
ジョン：「いつもの人たちさ」
例B：
彼の心臓発作の原因は、お決まりの悪い食生活、ストレスそして喫煙だった。
